Nursing as a profession has a strong focus on the health care of the person, the family, and the community. It supports and sustains the promotion and maintenance of health. A generally extended life span, emergence of new diseases, growing awareness of health care and new medical technologies and research, have called for new expectations and expanding needs on the nursing and health care professionals.

 

In line with the School's tradition in providing excellent quality education, Nursing Studies & Healthcare has been offering a comprehensive choice of awards and non-award-bearing nursing and health care programmes in the past decade. We offer pre-registration nursing programme, health services management and specialty nursing programmes such as gastroenterology, renal nursing, oncology and palliative care and enterostomal therapy, as well as elderly care and physiotherapy courses.

This programme aims to prepare registered nurses for an advanced role in a clinical nursing specialty, namely, Enterostomal Therapy Nursing (ETN), within a range of health care settings. It is essential that registered nurses are competent to provide high quality nursing care to patients requiring wound, incontinent and or stoma care.

The Programme aims to equip enrolled nurses with essential competencies for safe, effective and ethical practice so as to achieve the requirement of the Core-Competencies for Registered Nurses (General) of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong (NCHK). The programme is designed to equip nurses with specialist knowledge and clinical skills in renal nursing through lectures, skills training classes, site visit and placement. The course content will cover renal disorders, application of peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis include Arterial Vascular Access and care management of a patient with acute and chronic renal failure.

This programme provides an opportunity for health care professionals who are working at all levels in oncology to develop their knowledge and skills. 
Module 1 Haematological Oncology for Health Care Professionals: introduces the aetiology and treatment of haematological malignancies in adults. 
Module 2 General Oncology for Health Care Professionals: provides a basic understanding of the principles of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in cancer treatment. 
Module 3 Palliative Care for Health Care Professionals: develops the specialised knowledge and skills of health care professionals working in hospice and or in oncology units.

This programme aims to develop a deep and critical understanding of the impact of frailty on an individual’s health and well-being, both physically and psychologically. 

It will provide students with an opportunity to debate and evaluate evidence based, person centred strategies and/or interventions (such as falls management) for active ageing, self-management and independence, in an inter-professional context. Students will critically evaluate the application of these approaches in their own individual practice area.

This programme focuses on critically applying knowledge and understanding to support service development for people with long term conditions’; promoting self-management and collaborative working. This programme is based on best practice discussed within national and international policy and guidelines. It will explore in depth the impact of long-term conditions on the individual, their family and carers.

 

The programme aims to encourage practitioners to further develop their knowledge and skills in order to maximise person centred care during routine practice and develop services to support individuals with long term conditions’ in line with health and social care policy.
