OLQE Preparatory Workshops

This workshop provides participants with a wide coverage of Hong Kong’s commercial and company law and practice, focusing on both fundamental principles and practical applications. Through structured modules, attendees will explore key topics such as corporate governance, share transfers, acquisition of business, wind-up procedure, compliance frameworks for listed companies, and regulatory responses to market misconduct. The program emphasizes skill development, equipping participants to review and analyze essential legal documents — including corporate resolutions, articles of associations, transactional agreements — while mastering core tasks such as company incorporation, shelf company activation, and business restructuring under Hong Kong’s legal framework.

The workshop comprises a total of 27 instructional hours, delivered through nine sessions of three hours each. These sessions will be conducted on an intensive basis during November.

The first six sessions will be structured as knowledge seminars, focusing on key examinable topics in the Commercial and Company Law Head of the OLQE—such as corporate governance, market misconduct, and listed company rules. The final three sessions will consist of mock examinations and detailed review sessions, designed to consolidate understanding and enhance exam readiness.

🪶Teaching Team 

Ms Joyce Ma

Solicitor (Hong Kong)

Ms. Joyce Ma is a Hong Kong corporate and commercial solicitor with over 7 years of experience at several prestigious law firms, including BigLaw and Silver Circle. She advises multinational corporations and financial institutions across the PRC, APAC, and globally on complex legal matters, including IPOs, M&A, investment and securities compliance, corporate governance, and commercial litigation. She holds a Juris Doctor and PCLL from City University of Hong Kong, along with a Certificate in Political and Public Administration from the Chinese Academy of Governance. She will be participating in the teaching of Head III Commercial and Company Law for the OLQE series.

Mr. Ivan Tsang 

Solicitor (hong Kong)
BBA & LL.B (HKU), PCLL (HKU)

Ivan Tsang is a Hong Kong qualified solicitor with rich legal experience in both private practice and financial institution.  He is now a managing associate of Dentons.  He focuses on banking and finance practice, covering various types of financing transactions, including syndicated loans, real estate financing, acquisition financing and securitisation.  He also advises on other financial regulatory and licensing matters.  He previously worked in Deacons and equities legal team of Credit Suisse.  Ivan will be teaching Head III for our OLQE Workshops. 

Ms Cynthia Ang

SOLICITOR (ENGLAND AND WALES, HONG KONG)

Miss Cynthia Ang is a practising solicitor admitted in both Hong Kong and England & Wales. She trained at a Magic Circle law firm in Hong Kong and later practised at international U.S. law firms, advising on private equity and M&A transactions across the Asia-Pacific region. Cynthia holds a Master’s degree in Law and Finance from the University of Oxford, graduating with distinction. She earned her undergraduate law degree from Monash University with First Class Honours and completed the PCLL at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently a partner at a boutique law firm in Hong Kong, focusing on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. Her clients range from early-stage ventures to mature companies preparing for listing. In addition to practice, she has taught contract law and legal skills, and maintains research interests in fund regulation and private market structures.
