HKU SPACE Centre for Logistics and Transport recently co-organised a public seminar entitled “Halal Supply Chain Awareness Seminar” with The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
 
Renowned speakers, Professor Dr Saadiah Yahya, CMILT and Associate Professor Dr Sariwati Mohd Shariff from Malaysia shared the knowledge on underlying principle for dietary requirements of the enormous 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide and their valuable insights on the practices of Halal logistics and supply chain management. Detailed process and requirements were shared from procuring materials and services, to transforming them into intermediate goods and final products, and deliver them through a distribution system.  The Halal supply chain was achieved with compliance with the Shariah – Islamic principles through adopting halal and toyyiban to ensure halal integrity of food supply chain. The seminar, the first to introduce the principles and practices of Halal supply chain in Hong Kong, was conducted with great success.
