Dr Sophia Law

Dr Sophia LAW is a former Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Studies of Lingnan University where she taught courses in Chinese and Western art history, art and community. In the 1980s she studied Chinese painting with the late master of the Lingnan School, Mr Yang Shanshen. One of her areas of research is the modernity and development of Chinese art in the twentieth century.

Our contemporary lifestyles and traditional ink painting do not seem to resonate. It only takes a glance to 'read' any social media post, but ink painting is something we need to be patient and scrutinise. It's not about glamorous colours or flashy gimmicks, but it lingers. In an age of speed and overwhelming visual effects, Dr Law will lead us in an appreciation of ink painting and a reflection on tradition.
