When you see the word "Gift" in Germany, don't be so happy and mistake it as a present which you are going to buy for your friends. "Gift" in German means "poison" and is a neutral noun. If you want to buy a present in Germany, you should look for the word "Geschenk" (N). It is totally different and beware of false friends.
