You will acquire 5 key legal subjects in the Certificate in Legal Studies, which introduces you to areas of law advantageous to your life and professional career:

  1. Hong Kong Legal System and Method (Introduction to the Hong Kong legal system)
  2. Civil Procedure (The rules and procedures for court cases)
  3. Law of Obligations (Laws concerning Contract and Tort)
  4. Business Associations (Important laws about companies and partnerships)
  5. Hong Kong Basic Law (The most important law in Hong Kong)

The Certificate in Legal Studies is far more flexible than most other courses for sitting your exams. You may choose from 3 exam sessions a year,  normally held in May/June, August and November.

It is up to you when you choose to sit your exams, depending on which of these exam sessions is most convenient for you. In order to give you this flexibility, we charge a separate examination fee which includes up to five exams during the same session.

All classes are held from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm on weekday evenings and/or from 2:30 pm-5:30 pm on Saturday afternoons.

To help students with busy work/family lives, classes are normally limited to a maximum of two classes per week

The only compulsory written work on the Certificate in Legal Studies are 5 written assignments (one for each subject) of up to 2,000 words each. You will usually be given these assignments (which constitute 25% of the final mark) several months before the submission deadline, and your lecturers will give you guidance on how to answer them.

This is an open entry course suitable for all students at all educational levels. About half of the students are normally university graduates, but students without existing academic qualifications are also welcome.

All students must attend 70% of all scheduled classes, but this 70% attendance requirement is measured across the whole year, and does not apply to each individual module.
