HKU SPACE Executive Academy (SEA) - Green Finance Forum 2016 Event Recap

Date
08 Nov 2016 (Tue)

Green Finance Forum 2016 was successfully held on 7 November 2016 with more than 120 participants. Following the outcome of international climate negotiations in Paris summit last year, governments around the world are working on far-reaching programmes to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and deal with other environmental challenges. Panel speakers including Dr Christine Loh, Under Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government, Mr. Tim Freshwater, Chairman, Goldman Sachs Asia Bank Ltd., Ms Jessica Robinson, Head of Asia (ex-Japan), UN-PRI and Mr. Alan Lok, Director, Capital Market Policy, CFA Institute shared their insight of green finance development in HK. China has become a world leader in renewable energy investment. Given HK’s solid financial infrastructure and reputation in financial services, HK should play a key role in development of green finance markets and products. As many Asian countries declared a ‘war on pollution, prospects of green finance for young finance professionals are positive. Major potential areas include strategic green bond issuance, growth of a green investor base, green project accreditation schemes, support by private equity and emissions trading.
