The Appeal of Portuguese

In the 1950s, Portuguese was one of the major teaching languages. This appealed to the many local residents of Portuguese descent who felt that they had lost touch with their language and to a number of Chinese students trading with Brazil or planning to emigrate there.

Multi-Lingual Teaching

The courses in the1950s and 60s, were already taught in several languages to cater for different student profiles. One course in 1962, the “Principles of Economics” was offered in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
