Dr Yuen Cho Lam
Dr Yuen holds a PhD from the School of Chinese at the University of Hong Kong. He researches in classical Chinese literature. His publications include The Forms of Ideals: A Study of Chinese Literature(2025) and The Laws of Lamentation: Content Types and Writing Modes of Poetry Depicting Poverty and Lowness in Mid-to-Late Tang Dynasty(2020) and several academic essays. He has taught at several tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and currently teaches Chinese literature at HKU SPACE Community College.

Traditional Chinese literature is characterized by its pursuit of the "unusualness", emphasis on satire and focus on emotion. Based on Hong Kong society's lifestyle, popular language, films and television dramas and online articles since the last century, this talk will point out the relationship between Hong Kong's customs and the essential characteristics of traditional Chinese literature and will reveal the similarities and differences between Hong Kong culture and traditional Chinese culture, demonstrating the significance of studying traditional Chinese literature in contemporary society.
