Koreans tend to feel much safer as a group member than as individuals, and they seek unity and homogeneity among group members. Collectivism in Korean society has acted as a source of power to overcome many difficulties in Korean history but sometimes has brought conflicts between subgroups in society. Understanding Korea's collectivism will give a better insight into cultural phenomena and recent social issues in South Korea.
