Course DESCRIPTION
This 100 hours course is designed to help students progress from CEFR B2 to B2+. It includes 100 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of independent study on HKU SPACE Online Universal Learning Platform (SOUL), providing comprehensive coverage of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. Students will progress from intermediate English skills to upper intermediate for exam readiness.

Course Completion Requirements
• Fulfil the 80% attendance requirement ; and
• Pass 60% or above in the overall course assessments
o Weekly quizzes, short writing tasks, etc.

*Students who fail to meet the course-completion requirements will be asked to re-take the course within 12 months should there be a class available.

Teachers' Background
Mrs Katherine Mackay
Mrs Katherine Mackay holds a Master of Arts in Education (English) from the University of York and a CELTA qualification awarded by the University of Cambridge. With nearly three decades of experience in English language education across Asia, she has served in teaching, teacher training, and academic leadership roles in Hong Kong, China, Japan, South Korea, and across South East Asia. Alongside her educational expertise, Mrs Mackay has held senior marketing and regional management positions with leading global educational publishers, including Oxford University Press and Pearson. Her professional interests include intercultural communication, language education, teacher development, and international business communication. She is committed to helping learners develop the linguistic and intercultural competencies required to succeed in global professional settings.
Mr Daniel Mark
Mr Daniel Mark holds a Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies at The University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Literature from National Taiwan University. He is a certified TEFL educator and teaches at HKU SPACE and tutored in Academic Writing at The University of Hong Kong. Beyond education, Mr Mark has extensive experience in technology consulting, digital innovation, and solutions architecture, having worked as a manager, strategist, and consultant for technology-focused organisations. His academic and professional interests focus on the intersection of language, culture, technology, and emerging digital communication practices. He is particularly interested in how generative AI is transforming language use, communication, and professional practices in the global workplace.

Entry Requirements
Minimum Entry Requirement (For admission to EBC III)
Applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as:
i. an overall band of 6 with no subtests lower than 5.0 in the IELTS; or
ii. a score of 79 (before 21 Jan 2026) OR 4.5 (after 21 Jan 2026) in the internet-based TOEFL; or
iii. equivalent qualifications.

* Applicants should submit their official report issued by the testing organisation/ awarding body as their supporting document(s).
