HKU SPACE Achieves High Satisfaction Rating in Student Barometer, Reaching New Heights for Fifth Year
HKU SPACE was thrilled to achieve an overall student satisfaction rate of 90.1% [1] surpassing both global and Asian benchmarks in the Student Barometer (SB) survey 2024. This is the highest rate recorded compared to the previous four waves, marking the fifth time the School has participated in this prominent global survey. Open to all students, the survey results reflect our commitment to delivering quality teaching, learning, and support services.
Findings in the survey showed that:
- In the area of learning experience, among 12 teaching items, the School matched or outperformed the global benchmarks in 11 of these items, including “expert lecturers”, “quality lectures”, “programme organisation”, “good teachers” “marking criteria”, “performance feedback” and “learning support”;
- In the area of learning and living experience, the School performed well above the Global/Asian benchmarks by 5 percentage points, including “programme organisation”, “marking criteria”, “performance feedback”, “careers advice”, “the transport links to other places”, “internet access at my accommodation”, “internet access on campus” and “earning money”.
- The satisfaction rates of most elements of learning improved over the years when compared with the last two surveys, including “Learning overall”, “programme organisation”, “good teachers”, “quality of lectures” and “virtual learning environment”.
Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE, stated, “The encouraging survey results across various aspects indicate strong support from our students. Our overall satisfaction rating not only surpassed the global benchmark but also reached its highest level in years. Furthermore, the majority of the School’s ‘learning’ elements have achieved higher satisfaction rates compared to previous years, exceeding the global standards. These outcomes demonstrate our students’ appreciation for our ongoing efforts to enhance their learning experiences.”
"With the opening of two new learning centres in Kowloon Bay and an additional facility in Sheung Shui, HKU SPACE is dedicated to transforming its teaching and learning environments. By integrating Artificial Intelligence into its curriculum, the institution aims to enhance interactivity and create personalised learning experiences. This initiative highlights HKU SPACE's commitment to preparing students for the demands of a dynamic job market, ensuring they acquire essential skills and knowledge. The adoption of AI reflects the institution's drive to lead in educational innovation, fostering a diverse and forward-thinking environment where learners can confidently address future challenges."
The Student Barometer survey, the largest global annual student satisfaction survey, was conducted by the independent research agency “Etio” to collect feedback on student experiences in areas of decision making, teaching, learning, programme content, and student support. In the 2024 wave, the survey received input from around 106,400 students from 132 institutions in 24 countries.
[1]The overall satisfaction rate denotes the percentage of respondents who replied “satisfied” or “very satisfied” to the question -- “Overall, how satisfied are you with all aspects of your experience at your institution?”
