Filling the Gap: Exploring the Allure of Academic Research

Filling the Gap: Exploring the Allure of Academic Research

Currently, many master’s degree programmes have research project components which lead to the submission of scholarly dissertations. However, not many students had academic research training in their first-degree education. The lack of research knowledge and research writing experience makes them hard to pursue higher academic qualifications.

This seminar aims to explore the core values and methodologies of academic research. Research activities are based on rigorous rational analysis and critical thinking, and are advanced through continuous knowledge exploration. The seminar will delve into the impact of curiosity on research motivation, and how to transform personal interests into research topics with academic value.

Through representative research examples, we will illustrate the challenges and strategies in the research process. The seminar will also systematically introduce methods for identifying research gaps, assisting participants in mastering the skills to assess research potential and establish a framework for developing feasible research projects. The aim is to enhance participants' understanding of academic research and encourage their active participation in research activities, promoting academic development.

The talk will be delivered in Cantonese.
