The time has come to take a step forward towards a new vision of the future of laboratory medicine. The adoption of technology advancement and available omics analyses and use of “Big Data” obtained together with the AI/ ML models have highlighted the professional nature of bioinformatics and new technologies, which transform the global diagnostic landscape and open new perspectives in studying crucial aspects and value of clinical laboratory medicine. There were, however, challenges and needs unmet. The development of a new generation of laboratory professionals and leaders shall be encouraged, who will be able to integrate specific technical and administrative skills with a broader vision of health care and patient’s needs, as well as tackle complex issues such as data privacy, harmonization of data, regulatory requirements and accreditation issues in context.
