How to Apply

The programme aims to prepare students to achieve advanced technical skills and competence as a piano performer and teacher. In addition to providing specialised training for students to improve their performance in piano playing, the curriculum also drills on students’ pedagogical knowledge and competence in piano teaching so that they can develop a range of teaching approaches when delivering piano lessons. The programme also covers research techniques and methods for students’ future pursuit of research.

ON COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAMME, STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

deliver a high standard of performance and demonstrate an advanced level of expertise and competence in piano playing;

  1. discuss piano teaching from different perspectives and a broad range of pedagogical approaches that can be used across a wide spectrum of levels and abilities;
  2. advance their technical and stylistic development on piano performance as required of both a performer and a piano teacher, and establish a repertoire covering a variety of styles;
  3. develop a broad range of teaching approaches to interpret different music compositions for different levels of students;
  4. analyse different psychological theories and approaches for music teaching and performing; and
