How to Apply


The course aims to provide critical training for social enterprises management in managing for sustainability, financial viability and operational efficiency. The course also provide in-depth understanding about the nature, operational concerns and strategic positions of social enterprises.

In this 42 hours short course, the following topics will be covered:

Pass Requirements:

To successfully complete the Certificate for Module (Management for Social Enterprises), students must

  1. Attendance not less than 75% of the classes and
  2. An overall pass rate of 50%

Joseph is an accomplished finance executive and impact investor with over 30 years of experience spanning the commercial, non-profit, and social enterprise sectors. As a seasoned corporate and investment banker, Joseph held senior roles in structured finance, portfolio management, and corporate finance at major financial institutions. He successfully executed transactions in mergers, acquisitions, fundraising transactions, and capital raises partnering with leading corporations, funds, and institutions. Joseph served for over 6 years as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of a publicly-listed company. He provided strategic leadership for all aspects of financial planning, reporting, capital management, and investor relations. During his tenure, Joseph led the raising of US$1.1 billion through innovative corporate finance strategies and onboarding international strategic shareholders. Since 2016, Joseph has dedicated his expertise to driving social impact. As Honorary Chief Executive of an investment fund’s charitable foundation for 5 years, he stewarded its philanthropic mission. Currently, Joseph focuses on impact investing and business-as-mission initiatives to empower underserved communities in Hong Kong and overseas. He co-founded impact investment platforms that have generated meaningful employment for marginalized groups. Joseph also co-invested in and advised social enterprises like a restaurant creating jobs for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. His hands-on guidance helped the restaurant create 35 jobs and achieve a 40% annual social return on investment. As an advisor, Joseph works closely with social entrepreneurs on coaching, capacity building, and access to impact capital. He helps financial technology companies evaluate their ESG footprint and engage international impact investors.

Mr. Ted Kwan

Ted started his career in real estate development and equity analysis, he specializes in investment and asset valuation. He founded the Hong Kong Investment Training Institute in 2007 and is one the most experienced CFA trainers in Hong Kong. He also conducted research on property market and feasibility study on investment projects. He was once acted as consultant to MTRC and Hong Kong Airport Authority. Ted is the Director of Fullness Christian Social Enterprise Ltd. (豐盛社會企業有限公司), aiming to provide vocational training for youth-at-risk in Hong Kong, which received the Outstanding Social Enterprise Award 2011 from the Hong Kong Government. He is an expert in social impact measurement. In 2016, he wrote the first of such book for the Social Enterprises World Forum held in Hong Kong. From 2018 to 2022, he is the Project Director and Principal Trainer of the Jockey Club Fullness Social Impact Measurement Coaching Scheme, which trained more than 70 NGOs and 100 social projects. He is a CFA charterholder, a Certificate holder in ESG Investing and a columnist in Eduplus Magazine. He received the Decennary Award from Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts (now renamed as CFA Society Hong Kong) in 2011. Ted earned his first degree in Hong Kong and subsequently a master’s degree in National University of Singapore.

Linda is a corporate finance lawyer and business executive based in Hong Kong with over a decade of experience in the legal industry. Qualified in Hong Kong since 2008, she has advised clients on initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and startup fundraising. In 2016 to 2019, Linda joined a legal-tech startup in Hong Kong, where she served as Head of Product. In 2020, Linda cofounded sehji (寫字), a funding application institute that assists social innovation projects and art and cultural organisations in obtaining public and private funding. Leveraging her skills as a corporate finance lawyer, sehji also advises clients on corporate structure and governance, and assists entities in applying for section 88 tax exemption status. Linda is a course consultant at the Department of Politics and Public Administration at HKU, supporting the content development and student engagement for the course Digital Governance (POLI3149). Linda was a visiting lecturer at PolyU SPEED and taught Management of Social Enterprise in 2022. She has also given guest lectures at HKU SPACE, CUHK, HKUST and Caritas Institute of Higher Education. In 2022 and 2023, Linda served as COO & General Counsel at Forbole, a Proof-of-Stake blockchain validator. Linda regularly speaks as a panellist or moderator on topics related to blockchain governance, and has hosted an introductory course on Decentralised Finance in 2023. Linda’s expertise in corporate finance, social entrepreneurship, and Web3 technology has made her a sought-after speaker on topics related to social innovation and digital transformation. Her passion lies in helping organisations achieve both financial success and social good, and driving inclusion and sustainability in the commercial landscape. Linda obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Hong Kong in 2005 and completed her PCLL in 2006.

Dr. Clara Kan

Senior Lecturer, Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems, HKBU


Dr Clara Kan is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Marketing of Hong Kong Baptist University Business School. She also serves as Programme Director for Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing. Before that, she is a Lecturer at the School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Clara is an accomplished professional in marketing and sales. The footprint of her career covered telecommunications, retail, financial services and FMCG advertising at various senior positions. She is also a keen supporter of the development of social entrepreneurship in Hong Kong. She serves on the board of FSES since its inception in 2012. She is a member of the advisory committee of the Enhancing Self Reliance Programme of the Home Affairs Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government since 2018. She has previously served on the board of Fair Trade Hong Kong Foundation, Fullness Salon, and as a co-opted member of the Outreach Core Team of Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fund (SIEF). She is also a business and capacity-building coach for many social enterprises. Clara graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University majoring in Mass Communications. She holds an MBA degree from the University of Wales in the United Kingdom, a Master of Arts degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a DBA from the City University of Hong Kong.

Innovator Farm Programme Director


Tracy Ng is Programme Director of Innovator Farm and CEP® Certified ESG Planner. She is currently a part-time lecturer at HKUSPACE and HKBU, teaching Management for Social Enterprises and Business Ethics respectively. She is also a voluntary director of the social enterprise Fullness Salon. Tracy has co-authored a number of FSES publications and provided professional training and coaching services on social entrepreneurship and project management to various NGOs and social enterprises. Prior to Tracy’s time in the NGO sector, she had over 20 years’ industrial experience in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector as a managing consultant, project director, and project manager serving the government, NGOs, and multinational corporations’ mega projects. In recent years, Tracy has been focusing on nurturing youth in social entrepreneurship development and has led FSES to become an intermediary (the Innovator Farm) of the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) that helps build up the ecosystem for nurturing social entrepreneurs and developing and implementing innovative projects.

Douglas is currently the Programme Manager at the Fullness Social Enterprises Society (FSES). He is a promoter of social innovation and entrepreneurship, and has always believed that social innovation and entrepreneurship can effectively solve various challenges faced by local and global communities. Prior to joining FSES, Douglas operated a social enterprise that empowered deaf youth through balloon art, and also worked for an international volunteer organization that promotes global citizenship awareness. He currently focuses on promoting social innovation and entrepreneurship at FSES. Among all, the Innovator Farm programme, which is appointed by the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) which aims to provide comprehensive support to social entrepreneurs, has cultivated more than 70 effective social innovation projects that prevent or reduce local poverty or social isolation issues in the past three years. Douglas is also a Certified ESG Planner (CEP®); recently, he completed an Executive Education programme on Cultivating Educational Leadership at Harvard Business School.

Applicants shall:

  • hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized university or equivalent; or
  • have achieved a level in relevant professional qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merit.

HKU SPACE provides 24-hour online application and payment service for students to apply to selected award-bearing programmes and to enrol in most open admission courses (courses enrolled on a first come, first served basis) via the Internet.  Applicants may settle the payment by using either "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard online.  


For first time enrolment

    Some programmes/courses may admit by selection, and may require applicants to provide electronic copy of any required documents (e.g. proof of qualification) as indicated on the programme/course webpage.  Only file format in doc, docx, jpg and pdf are supported. 

  2. Make Online Payment

    Pay the application or programme/course fees by either using:

In Person / Mail

1. Cash, EPS  or WeChat Pay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS or WeChat Pay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for the application and the applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying  “Course Application” on the envelope.  HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/MasterCard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or MasterCard, including the “HKU SPACE MasterCard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE MasterCard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.


  • Applicants must print out and sign on the payment slip (if any) before settling the tuition fees at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.
  • Online payment is unavailable for this programme.
  • For general and short courses, applicants may be required to pay the course fee in cash or by EPS, WeChat Pay, Visa or MasterCard if the course is to start shortly.
  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder's credit card account.
  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  • For additional certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE" to any of our enrolment centres.
