This programme can be taken upon successful completion of the Certificate in German (Intermediate) or an equivalent programme of 230-250 hours. It continues to build upon the language already acquired, adding grammar and practising it in simple discussions, role-plays and group work, so that students can talk with confidence about the past, present and future. By the end of this programme, students should be able to express simple opinions and feelings in the language. They should also be able to read information from simple ads and to write texts on familiar topics using a range of verb tenses. The programme is equivalent to B1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Students will practise their speaking skills, expressing opinions on culture, sport, food & drink, current affairs, local events, holidays & the world today. They will read and react to authentic texts, making comments in both the spoken and written forms. Students will also listen to songs and recordings of native speakers such as public announcements and detailed instructions. The programme is equivalent to B1+ level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

By the end of the programme, students should be able to talk about various topics in a more detailed and fluent way , write different types of texts regarding more abstract and cultural matters, summarise the main ideas when listening to clear speeches or reading a wide range of texts.

 The programme aims to

• Introduce students to simple phrases and sentences used in basic conversation, e.g.: introducing oneself, saying hello,  reserving a hotel room, ordering food and drink, talking about your job, finding your way around town, talking about likes and dislikes and holidays.
• Give students the basic grammar and vocabulary needed for simple communication, e.g. present tense forms, adjectives, articles, basic modal verbs (e.g. poder and dever), and prepositions of place.
• Provide students with the techniques needed to listen with confidence to simplified, everyday dialogues when spoken clearly and slowly.
• Introduce students to some areas of Portuguese culture such as food and drink, greetings, festivals and places.
• Enable students to extract information from very simple written texts such as forms, menus and short, simplified articles. Also to write short simple postcards and fill in information on a form, e.g. hotel registration form.

The programme aims to  

• Increase students’ confidence to deal with everyday spoken situations, e.g. talking about your home, talking about free time activities (e.g. food, sport and travel), discussing work and jobs and making simple phone conversations.
• Consolidate and build on the basic grammar learned in the first year, future and conditional tenses, past tenses, comparative and superlatives and gerund and participle.  
• Enable students to write a short simple letter or email and to complete a simple curriculum vitae in a given format. Also to take down simple notes on a telephone conversation.
• Build students’ confidence while listening so that they can demonstrate an understanding of the main point in short simple messages and everyday conversations, e.g. when listening to information about family, the local area and hobbies or when listening to basic information on the telephone.
• Introduce students to some important areas of Portuguese culture, e.g. culinary specialties, regions of Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries, housing, industry (e.g. tourism and fashion).

The programme is aimed at students with no previous or little knowledge of the language. It covers a range of everyday topics and situations and includes a balance of all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as practice on key grammar points, vocabulary and pronunciation relevant to the level. By the end of the programme, students should be able to understand and use basic everyday phrases to introduce themselves, ask and answer questions about personal details. They will also learn language to deal with everyday situations like shopping, eating out, talking about their jobs, families and interests.

本課程由認識字母發音及日常生活上的問侯語開始，通過學習基本文法句型，訓練學員基本的講、聽、讀、寫的能力。

本課程首4月教授動詞變化句中的樣態、聽聞、使役、使役被動、敬語及謙讓等文法句型，連同首兩年的「日語證書(入門)」及「日語證書(基礎)」，到這階段學員基本上完成日本語能力試驗N4級中的語法及句型。緊接著是加強中級程度的講、聽、讀、寫的訓練。

課程概括

香港大學專業進修學院之日語課程分為「日語證書(入門)」、「日語證書(基礎)」、「日語證書(中級)」、「日語證書(高中級)」、「日語證書(高級)」、「日語文憑」、「日語高等文憑」及「日語傳意及日本文化高等文憑」。各級時數為120小時。

本課程緊接『日語證書(中級)』課程，著重於中級程度的講、聽、讀、寫的訓練。除了教授中級文法之外，在聽與講方面，教材包括問路、請求許可、接受及謝絕邀請、轉述條件、提案、說明原委等各主題。在讀與寫方面，則利用節錄自報章、雜誌和書本的文章，訓練學員閱讀，理解，分析和寫作的技巧。

This program aims to develop students with an advanced level of interactional competence in productive (oral and writing skills) and receptive skills (reading and listening skills) in Japanese. Class activities such as group discussions and presentations of topics related to current Japanese social and cultural issues will be held in order to train students' critical analytical skills and competency to express their opinions in advanced-level Japanese. 

課程旨在培養學員的日語互動表達（會話及寫作）和接收（閱讀及聆聽）能力以達至高級程度。課堂透過就日本當代社會及文化議題進行小組討論和匯報等，訓練學員運用高級程度日語批判分析和表達意見的能力。

本課程上課時數共240小時，銜接「日語證書(高級)」。當中包括「Upper Advanced Japanese I」及「Upper Advanced Japanese II」(各120小時)。
