Dr. Alvin Ho, CFA
Dr. Ho is an experienced investment principal with a proven track record in private equity. While dedicating time to teaching at universities, he balances managing private investment portfolios and institutional LP investing with mentoring both start-ups and established companies. In addition, he serves as a board member for listed companies and NGOs, and is a member of investment committees for various funds and platforms. Previously the legal and executive representative for local currency funds incorporated in Beijing and Chengdu, he was the Head of China for a pan-regional private equity growth fund. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, along with master’s degrees from Tsinghua University and London Business School. He has authored three books in Chinese on the economics of sports, and served as chief editor of, and contributor to, RISE FROM CRISES, a publication of CFA Society Hong Kong.
Mr Cliff Ip, CFA, CPA(Aust.)
Mr. Cliff IP is a partner of Wings Capital, and the Managing Director and CEO of Wings Securities. He holds a Bachelor of Business and Administration degree from the University of Hong Kong, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also the Divisional President of CPA Australia Greater China in 2024. Mr. Cliff IP has around 25 years of experience in investment banking, family office and auditing. He was previously the Executive Director of the Investment Banking Division of JPMorgan Hong Kong. Prior to that, he also worked at Credit Suisse Hong Kong Investment Banking Division, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen Hong Kong Assurance Division. He has accumulated profound experiences in private credit investments and across IPOs, pre-IPOs, cross-border M&As, share placement, convertible bond and bond issuances.
Brandon Leung, CFA
Brandon Leung is a Vice President at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (SMTB), one of the largest asset managers in Japan, where he is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and executing private equity and infrastructure primary investments and co-investments. Prior to joining SMTB, he was a Senior Analyst at the Investment Office of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Endowment. Brandon holds a Bachelor of Economics and Finance with First Class Honours from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Finance from the University of Cambridge. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Certified FRM.
Dr. Ringo Chan
Dr. Chan has more than 20 years teaching experience in behavioural finance and investment management courses at HKU SPACE and offers financial management talks for corporate clients and NGOs. He is a financial writer at a well-known newspaper and judge panel of the Best Financial Planner. His research interests are in learning behaviour and investment psychology.

Private markets and alternative investments have grown markedly over the past decade and have become the major roles in many institutional investor portfolios. This seminar offers insights on the current development of private markets, the role of alternative investments in risk management and how investors can incorporate them in their portfolio.
The seminar is co-organised by CFA Institute, CFA Society Hong Kong, CPA Australia and HKU SPACE.
