Pathway to Dual Qualified Solicitor in HK & England
The CPE shaped me into the legal professional that I am today
"I learnt about the Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law (CPE) programme through word of mouth at a time when I was working in publishing and completely oblivious to the world of law. Uncertain whether law would be a suitable path for me, I decided to take a leap of faith and enroll on the CPE. I figured that if it didn’t resonate with me, I could always withdraw after the first year. Little did I know that this decision would be one of the greatest turning points in my life.
Fast forward 10 years and I am now a dual-qualified solicitor in Hong Kong and England & Wales, specializing in litigation and various non-contentious commercial matters. I have also taken up a teaching role with HKU SPACE, teaching on the CPE programme and sharing my insights and experiences in studying law with individuals who aspire to build successful careers in the legal profession in Hong Kong.
Looking back, I am very grateful I took that initial step into the unknown. It allowed me to embark on this remarkable journey of personal and professional growth. The CPE programme provided me with all the necessary foundation and knowledge to navigate the intricate world of law and shaped me into the legal professional I am today. I am all the more grateful for the doors it has opened in both Hong Kong and UK, the challenges it has presented, and the opportunities it continues to provide."
Jade Fung graduated from the CPE with a Commendation in 2014 and from the MMU LLB with a First Class Honours in 2015. She worked as a Solicitor in Hong Kong until 2023, before moving to the UK to take up a position as a Solicitor with a law firm on the English south coast.
