My experience at HKU SPACE was extremely beneficial to my planned career.   As the founder of a sports association (International Capoeira Society Treasurer - Ballet Edification Society of Hong Kong), this course was geared quite closely in line with my objectives for taking the course.

The course was delivered in English which was good for me even though the majority of my classmates were local Hong Kongers.

Assessments were challenging but also interesting which helped give me the motivation to get deep into most of the topics to improve myself.   Lecturers are very helpful and easily approachable with a vast amount of actual industry experience.

If your goals are to pursue a career in sports and recreation administration the Postgraduate Diploma at HKU SPACE is a good place to start.

I learnt a series of general management skills from the 2-years Advanced Diploma programme in Recreation and Sports Management. This programme has given me a wider perspective and various insights that enable me to be a better professional leader especially in supervising subordinates, as well as organizing events. Doing work based learning studies degree programme in Middlesex University, I was trained to do research project .This project has provided me effective methods to solve future unforeseen problems. The project took place at actual working condition, therefore the research facilitates to answer real world problems. Furthermore, I gained much better understanding of the industry that I work for. In these few years, I have been meeting classmates from various sports organizations. We manage to create network which we all enjoy in sharing our valuable experiences, we all broaden our horizon. I found this study is interesting. It inspires me to study harder. I also realized it allows me to explore my own potential much fully, in result I am more confident. Ongoing learning now becomes my passion. I do hope my pleasant experience in this study could encourage others.

I have been a full-time elite athlete (Hong Kong Badminton team) for 10 years. I obtained my Bachelor Degree of Arts in Recreation and Sports Management from The Middlesex University while competing as a full-time elite athlete. By receiving formal education in sports management, I am capable to collaborate new challenges flexibility, and strategize task more effectively in my current job. The HKU SPACE sports management program provided me with a good learning atmosphere that helps me evolve along with it. By graduating from this program and with the recommendation from the HKUSPACE Sports department, I achieved the Timothy Fok Scholastic Award for Sports and Recreation Management in (2012). Through this award, I have broadened my network of being a member of Recreation Management Association. Also, with the encouragement of the teacher, I continued to study the Master of Social Sciences in Sport and Leisure Management and graduated in 2014. Once again, thank you all the support of HKU SPACE. This program is a game changer for my career.

My name is YUEN Ka Keung (袁家強) and I was a judge for the Artistic Gymnastics at three consecutive summer Olympic Games (London 2012, Nanjing 2014 (Youth Olympic) and Rio 2016) and two Asian Games (Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014). During my judge career, I have witnessed some historical moments, such as, the Hong Kong Gymnastics Olympian, Mr. SHEK Wai Hung winning the historical Asian Games Gold Medal at 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

I was studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management in 2015 and it was an enriching academic and personal experience. I had great classmates coming from different backgrounds. Also, our lecturers and guest speakers were excellent, they are from different countries and are the specialists in their respective sectors. Furthermore, we were encouraged to think critically about different issues within the discipline of sport management.

The Postgraduate Diploma has equipped students in both academic and professional areas. Many of my classmates have developed new opportunities and careers after the graduation. In my case, I have received an offer to study with scholarship at the Master of Olympic Sport Administration programme in Russia. Let’s explore our potential in HKUSPACE!
