Introduction
The world we live in today is increasingly reliant on technology, and the demand for skilled IT professionals continues to soar. IT skills have become an essential element for success in both personal and professional aspects of life. Technology is used in nearly every field, from medicine to engineering and from finance to the arts. Possessing essential IT skills such as computer proficiency, programming, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity have become increasingly important. Those who do not possess basic IT skills risk being left behind in the workforce, and may struggle to keep up with the constantly evolving economy and job market.
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the Programme
On completion of the programme, students should be able to
- Identify the broad themes in information technology;
- Critically analyse computer-based problems and formulate IT strategic solutions;
- Apply information technology theories and practices in developing digital transformation strategy;
- Integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment effectively;
- Review and apply the emerging technologies in organisation.

The Curriculum
The programme consists of 10 modules and the contact hour in total is 300. The programme will be completed in around 12-month time.

Students will be assessed by continuous coursework, including lab worksheets, assignments, tests, and final examinations.
Exemption
Students may apply for exemption for not more than four modules based on prior study of similar modules at a comparable level. The application must be submitted before the programme commencement.
Graduation
The Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology is conferred upon students who have successfully:
- passed both the continuous assessment and written examination of each module; AND
- achieved at least 75% attendance of lectures for each module.

Modules
Information Systems for Digital Transformation
This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the roles played by information systems in organisations. Students will learn how to plan and carry out digital transformation using different development approaches and the management functions of information systems.
Systems Analysis and Design
This module aims to provide students with various concepts, principles, and stages of business information systems analysis and design. It will equip students with skills in systems development as well as the different methods, tools, and techniques used in systems analysis and design.
Fundamental Programming Concepts
This module aims to equip students with fundamental concepts and techniques of basic Python programming, including syntax, identifiers, control statements, functions, recursions, strings, lists, dictionaries, tuples and files. Some searching and sorting algorithms will also be covered.
Database Design and Applications
This module aims to equip students with the principles, design, administration, and implementation of database management systems. Topics include entity-relationship model, database design and normalisation, database query languages, indexing schemes, integrity and concurrency control.
Computer Networking
This module aims to enhance students' knowledge of computer networks, network structure and architecture, protocols, IP addressing and routing, flow control, etc. Students should be able to describe the services and functions provided by each layer in the Internet protocol stack.
e-Commerce Technology Management
This module introduces the theories and infrastructure which needed to deploy effective e-commerce solutions and the leading technologies needed to develop e-commerce applications. Students should be able to comprehend the specialised technical knowledge associated with e-Commerce and explore future development trends in e-Commerce.
Cyber Security
This module aims to equip students with the principles of cyber security. Topics include notions and terms of cyber security, malware, cryptography, access control, disaster recovery, security policy and measures, etc.
Cloud Computing Fundamentals
This module aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills in cloud computing. It provides students with the values, benefits and infrastructure of cloud computing and ways to access the resources online.
Big Data Analytics
This module aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge of Big Data analytics approach. It will enable students to understand the importance of the applications of Big Data analytics in daily life, particularly in commercial areas. Emphasis will be placed on both application modeling and solution methodology.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
This module aims to equip students with the principles and practice of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Students would learn how computers can accomplish tasks that are supposed to require human intelligence.

Entry Requirements
Applicants shall hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized institution.
If the degree or equivalent qualification is from an institution where the language of teaching and assessment is not English, applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as:
- an overall band of 6.0 or above with no subtests lower than 5.5 in the IELTS; or
- a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL, or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL, or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or
- HKALE Use of English at Grade E or above; or
- HKDSE Examination English Language at Level 3 or above; or
- equivalent qualifications.
Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on individual merit.

Enrolment Method- All applicants are required to complete the Application Form and, either submit in person at any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres or by post to Ms BoBo Kung, College of Life Sciences and Technology, HKU SPACE .
- All applicants, either by post or in person must be accompanied by:
- Certified photocopies of full educational certificates and transcripts.
- HKID Card copy.

When submitting your application in person at any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres, please bring along the originals of your educational certificates / transcripts for certification. If you are posting your application, please arrange to bring the originals of the relevant documents for certification at any of HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres before the commencement of classes.

HKU SPACE reserves the right to cancel a course in case of insufficient enrolment or unforeseen difficulties arising from running the course.

Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School's discretion.
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay
Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.
2. Cheque Or Bank draft
Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:
- bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
- or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard
Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.
4. Online Payment
Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment.
- In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
- Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
- HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
- For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
