Professor Enoch YOUNG Chien-ming

Professor Enoch YOUNG Chien-ming

Citation delivered by Dr John CRIBBIN, Deputy Director (Academic Services)

Professor Enoch Young Chien-ming is Director Emeritus of HKU SPACE where he served as Director for ten years from 1997-2008. During this period, which Professor Young described as the most rewarding years in his career, he established HKU SPACE as a leader in continuing education in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the rest of the world.

Under his leadership, the School established the first Community College in Hong Kong in 2000. This was a milestone in the Hong Kong education system. The HKU SPACE Community College offered an alternative route to higher education. It was an acknowledgement of diversity amongst young people in terms of developmental stages, interests and talents, as a strength rather than a weakness; as an asset rather than a liability.
