Ir Dr Shelley Zhou

Ir Dr Shelley Zhou is the Expert Advisor at Carbon Care Asia. As a dedicated sustainability professional, she has over 15 years’ experience in corporate sustainability, environmental and carbon management consultancy, new energy and biotechnology in Hong Kong, China and Singapore. From 2016 to 2019, she was Chief Executive of the University of Edinburgh Hong Kong Centre for Carbon Innovation responsible for driving innovation business development and research projects in Hong Kong. Prior to this, she helped establish the sustainability function of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and has been in charge of delivering the Club’s strategic sustainability performance and reporting for seven years. Ir Dr Zhou holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Philosophy degree in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). She is a Certified Carbon Audit Professional (CAP), a LEED Green Associate, a BEAM Professional and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. She is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor teaching at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the HKUST. Ir Dr Zhou actively engages with non-governmental organizations and professional associations. She is currently a Director of the Hong Kong Association of Energy Engineers (HKAEE) and a Committee Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE) Environmental Division. Previously, she was the President of the Association of Energy Engineers (Hong Kong Chapter), a co-opt member of the Hong Kong Green Building Council Public Education, and a core member of the Hong Kong delegation to COP13 held by the UNFCCC in Bali in 2007.

Mr John Sayer

Mr John Sayer is the Director of Carbon Care Asia. He has a background in sustainability, human development, climate change advocacy, organizational management and governance policy. He was the Executive Director of Asia Monitor Resource Centre working on information technology, labour rights and workplace health and safety before joining Oxfam Hong Kong in 1991 as Program Director and then Executive Director. In 2001 Mr Sayer moved to Oxford to take up the post of Executive Director of Oxfam International for an interim period. In 2003 he became Director of Africa Now, a development agency working on market-based solutions and business development services as well as promotion of ethical supply chains among international companies doing business in Africa. He has served on the Board of the UK Ethical Trading Initiative helping major corporations develop socially responsible supply chains. He also participated in the advisory body to the UN Global Compact on corporate conduct. He was a member of the Global Reporting Initiative’s Global Stakeholder Council and a member of the Council’s Capital Markets Discussion Group from 2016 to 2019. Since joining Carbon Care Asia in 2014 Mr Sayer has worked on green finance standards, green building standards, ESG reporting and the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into corporate reporting.

Certificate for Module (Sustainability Professionals)

The Sustainability Professionals programme is designed for those working on all aspects of environmental, social and governance (ESG) planning in business and finance.

The programme will provide an understanding of the global ambition of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement, show the links to international and local sustainability standards and metrics, and follow this through to the practical challenges of materiality assessment and stakeholder consultation necessary for a company’s ESG report. From high level policy to practical detail, this programme will expose participants to the full range of issues related to sustainability stewardship and illustrate the practical risks and opportunities facing companies in cities like Hong Kong.
