On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

[1] Leverage IP in commercial settings to optimize knowledge-based innovation as an integral part of corporate strategy for business growth, and a valuable intangible asset of enterprises;

[2] Adopt legal framework to formulate strategy and drive business growth by commercializing innovation through IP creation, IP ownership, IP protection, and IP exploitation;

[3] Apply strategic thinking to create synergy in collaborations of open innovation by integrating the regulatory and commercial perspectives for innovation-driven growth in today’s knowledge economy; and

[4] Formulate a strategic Intellectual Property Management (IPM) plan in their own industries and develop a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Assessment


The programme will be assessed by one group project presentation (100%)

  • The group project (a strategic business plan of commercializing an innovative product from IPM perspective) offers practical knowledge and essential techniques for students to experience, apply, analyse, internalize, and build hands-on capabilities in handling IP-related asset and innovation-driven growth for start-ups, SMEs, and MNCs.

Patent Attorney, Solicitor

As a patent attorney in a leading law firm, Larry’s niche areas of practice include patent drafting, prosecution of patent applications, patent litigation and revocation proceedings. He has extensive experience advising on all aspects related to IP including intellectual property (IP) portfolio, IP asset management, patentability advice, prior art search, patent infringement and validity opinions.

Larry is a registered solicitor, a registered patent attorney and a chartered engineer. He holds a Juris Doctor from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Master of IP Law as well as a Master of Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney, a Master of Science in Telecommunications from Coventry University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of East Asia, and a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta.

黎律師現為一著名律師事務所專利律師,負責撰寫專利申請檔、處理專利審查事務、專利訴訟及無效、撤銷程序,對提供知識產權資產管理、專利性分析意見、現有技術檢索、專利侵權及專利有效性分析意見等相關方面俱備豐富經驗。

黎律師為註冊事務律師、註冊專利律師、及特許工程師、並擁有香港中文大學法律博士、澳洲悉尼科技大學知識產權法律碩士和工程碩士學位、英國高雲城大學電訊碩士、澳門東亞大學工商管理碩士、及加拿大亞伯達省大學電機工程學士。

(i) a bachelor's degree awarded by a recognized university or equivalent;

or

(ii) an Associate Degree / a Higher Diploma or equivalent, and have at least 2 years of work experience.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merit.

1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and the applicant’s name.. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying  “Course Application” on the envelope.  HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (course enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, continuing students of award-bearing programmes, if their programmes offer online service, may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay and Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolement Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circustance.
  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder's credit card account.
  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be repsonsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE" to any of our enrolment centres.
