Individuals with different genetic make-up can respond differently towards the same food. Nutrigenomics is the science to understand how nutrients interact with human genes, with the ultimate goal of providing personalised nutrition advice according to one’s own genes.

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge of genetics and the cutting-edge technologies applied in nutrigenomics that are useful for interpretation of the test results in relation to personalised nutrition.

Related Seminar (19 Dec 2020) :

Diet by DNA: Is the best way to eat written in your genes?

Introduction:

Our bodies need to be able to absorb the right amount of different food components, store them in the right places, and use them at the right time. All of this is controlled by our genes. A person's genes therefore affect what happens to the food that is eaten. As a result, two different people can eat the same food, but it has different effects on them. Nutrigenomics is a relatively new field of science that studies how our food and our genes interact and Nutrigenomics companies that use genetic data to create diets are becoming more popular. This talk will provide an overview of the topic as a precursor of the course: Executive Certificate in Foundational Nutrigenomics and Personalised Nutrition.
