This programme aims to enable students to make an in-depth pursuit in both academic studies (criticism and theory) and practices (applied skills) in contemporary photography. The overall background and knowledge of contemporary issues in photography will be discussed. Students are expected to deal with historical perspectives, criticism and theory in photography and to explore contemporary lens-based image-making through a curriculum in the culture, history, theory and practice of photography. Students will be trained to reflect their learning through essays and photographic project work.

This programme is designed to provide a sound introduction to coffee and coffee brewing for those who are interested in deepening their coffee knowledge.

Note: A Student Service fee of USD 50 for SCA “Introduction to Coffee” Examination, USD 50 for SCA “Brewing Foundation” Examination, and USD 50 for SCA "Brewing Intermediate" Examination will be paid by students directly to SCA, and this is an additional fee on top of the tuition fee (i.e. HK$16,800) to HKU SPACE.
This programme is designed to provide a more comprehensive level of focused spirits knowledge required to underpin job skills and competencies, and it would be particularly suitable for those who work in bar service and cocktails, retail and wholesaling spirits businesses. On the other hand, this programme is also suitable for those people who have general interests and are enthusiastic in spirits, or who directly and indirectly work with spirits professionally.

Butler service skill is the core knowledge and skillsets that should be acquired by attendants who are now serving or aspired to serve in private jets, serviced apartments, luxury hotels and super yachts. The needs of manpower with such expertise and skillsets are well expressed among many luxury hospitality service providers in Hong Kong and in the region. Students graduating from this programme will pursue a career in the luxury service sector.

The programme is aimed at students with no previous or little knowledge of the language. It covers a range of everyday topics and situations and includes a balance of all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as practice on key grammar points, vocabulary and pronunciation relevant to the level. By the end of the programme, students should be able to understand and use basic everyday phrases to introduce themselves, ask and answer questions about personal details. They will also learn language to deal with everyday situations like shopping, eating out, talking about their jobs, families and interests. The programme  is equivalent to A1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

 The programme aims to
  • Introduce students to simple phrases and sentences used in basic conversation, e.g.: introducing oneself, saying hello,  reserving a hotel room, ordering food and drink, talking about your job, finding your way around town, talking about likes and dislikes and holidays.
  • Give students the basic grammar and vocabulary needed for simple communication, e.g. present tense forms, adjectives, articles, basic modal verbs (e.g. poder and dever), and prepositions of place.
  • Provide students with the techniques needed to listen with confidence to simplified, everyday dialogues when spoken clearly and slowly.
  • Introduce students to some areas of Portuguese culture such as food and drink, greetings, festivals and places.
  • Enable students to extract information from very simple written texts such as forms, menus and short, simplified articles. Also to write short simple postcards and fill in information on a form, e.g. hotel registration form.
