Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law (Common Professional Examination)

Dr Danny Gittings is a legal scholar holding a Doctoral degree in Law from the University of Hong Kong, a Masters in Law from the University of London and a Bachelor and Masters of Arts from the University of Oxford.

Dr Gittings is also an HKU SPACE alumnus, who was awarded a Distinguished Alumni Fellowship (2009), Outstanding Teacher Award (2006) and Outstanding Lifelong Learner Award (2001) for his studies and subsequent teaching at HKU SPACE on the CPE programme (now known as the Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law), the most popular part-time pathway to the legal profession in Hong Kong.

Following his studies at HKU SPACE, Dr Gittings was called to the Bar as a Barrister of both Gray’s Inn in London and the High Court of Hong Kong.

He is author of Introduction to the Hong Kong Basic Law (Hong Kong University Press, 2016) and has published with Cambridge University Press, Routledge, Hart and City University Press. A former journalist who was Associate Editor of the South China Morning Post before embarking upon his academic career, Dr Gittings regularly appears on Backchat, RTHK’s main English-language talk show.
