    The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK) has announced new Associate Financial PlannerTM (AFPTM) and Certified Financial PlannerCM (CFPCM) education programmes for the benefit of professionals working in the Financial Planning industry.

    There are now three levels of education programmes and examinations leading to the AFP and CFP qualifications: the AFP Education Programme (120 hours), CFP Level 1 Education Programme (120 hours) and CFP Level 2 Education Programme (40 hours).

    Students must progress through each level one at a time to obtain the AFP and CFP qualifications.

    Students can approach the IFPHK to learn the details of the various education programmes.

    Obtaining the Advanced Professional Diploma/Professional Diploma in Financial Planning

    Students who complete all 12 modules in the programme (AFP, CFP Level 1, CFP Level 2 and business modules) will be awarded the Advanced Professional DIploma in Financial Planning. Students who complete the first 5 modules (AFP, CFP level 1 and CFP Level 2) will be awarded the Professional Diploma in Financial Planning.

    Obtaining the AFP/CFP qualification

    This programme also allows students to sit for the AFP and CFP Professional examinations run by the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong. Students who complete the AFP module will qualify to sit for the AFP Certification Examination. Similarly, students who complete the CFP Level 1 modules will qualify to sit for the CFP Level 1 Certification Examination. Students who continue on to complete the CFP Level 2 module will qualify to sit for the CFP Level 2 Certification examination.

     Articulation to Edinburgh Napier University’s BA (Hons) Financial Services

    Students who complete all the AFP, CFP Level 1 and 2 and business modules will be able to enter Year 4 of Edinburgh Napier University’s BA (Hons) Financial Services degree programme. Students will also be awarded the Advanced Professional Diploma in Financial Planning.

    • Business courses: 36 hours.
      AFP Module (Fundamentals of Financial Planning for AFP):120 hours
      CFP Level 1 & 2 modules: 40 hours.
      One weekday evening or weekend per week

  • Medium of Instruction

    • Cantonese supplemented by English.

  • Programme Structure

    HKU SPACE has revamped its Advanced Professional Diploma in Financial Planning to incorporate the AFP and CFP education programmes. The full programme now consists of 12 modules as follows:

  • Exemption

    Exemptions from the 7 business courses may be granted to those who have completed equivalent courses at recognised post-secondary institutions or professional examinations. Students can be exempted from no more than 8 courses. For the Advanced Professional Diploma, the maximum number of exemptions are 8 courses.

    Applicants should

    • either, be 21 and have 3 years of relevant working experience;
    • or, have 5 HKCEE passes.

  • Payment Method

    The course fee is HK$12,000 including all teaching materials and textbooks. Please do not purchase the textbooks when you register with IFPHK. Payment is by three installments of $4,000 each due on May 12, 2012, July 12, 2012 and Sept 12, 2012 respectively. Students must pay the first installment on or before May 12, 2012 to successfully enroll.
