Background

Prof. Chan was Professor of Music, Associate Dean of Arts and Chairman of Music Department at the Chinese University of HK before joining HKU SPACE. He had been appointed by the Government as a member of the Regional Council, Copyright Tribunal, Arts Development Council and as advisor to numerous Government advisory boards including Finance Advisory Group of the West Kowloon Cultural District. In addition to his HKU SPACE appointment, he is also Adjunct Professor (CUHK), Subject Specialist (HKCAAVQ), CreateSmart Initiative Vetting Committee member of Commerce and Economic Development Bureau HKSAR, Chairman of The Composers and Authors Society of HK (a music copyright organization), Music Director of the HK Oratorio Society, Advisor cum External Examiner of Hang Seng Management College and Council member of Haw Par Music Foundation.

Prof. Chan graduated from CUHK and continued his study in the University of Toronto with a Commonwealth Scholarship. He was awarded Master of Music and Doctor of Music. He is a renowned composer and conductor with over 200 works written including eight symphonies. Several of his musical works had been published in the form of music scores and commercial CDs. His music had won him several international and local awards and were performed in over 30 countries. He had been presented the Outstanding Young Person Award(1992) and was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2000. He was further invited to join the China Musicians Association.
